How to play
- 01
Who goes first
At the start, players can choose to play first or second. The player who plays first moves the opponent first.
- 02
Place a piece
Take turns placing pieces into empty spaces. Three pieces on the same line form three, and you can capture one of the opponent's pieces.
The piece that was captured turns into ash and occupies a spot, so you can't place another piece at that spot. Blue-gray is Ink Cat, warm gray is Vermilion Fox. You can't capture the opponent's three-li stone, unless they have no other pieces. - 03
Chess move
After both sides have landed 12 stones, the gray pieces are locked in the jail, and only the empty points can be moved. Each time, move one space along the connecting line.
Move out a new Cheng San, then capture one more piece. This time, the captured piece is locked up and won't return to the board. Move the piece away and then back to count as a new three. Only capture one piece at a time.
These rules match the version played on this site.
