Klondike Solitaire: Reveal Hidden Cards or Build Foundations?

When playing Solitaire, at each step you first check if you can reveal a new card, then see if you can make room for the king.

First, identify three stacks of cards

At the start, there are 28 cards in the seven tables, with the remaining 24 cards drawn from the pile in the upper left corner. From left to right, the seven columns have 1 to 7 cards, with only the bottom card facing up.

  • Table Column: Arranged in alternating red and black ranks with decreasing points; Can be moved together with the frontal cards below it.
  • Draw one card pile and discarded pile each time; Only the top pile of discarded cards can be used. After drawing, you can flip back to continue drawing.
  • Four basic decks: Each pile only counts one suit, from A, 2, 3 all the way to the king. You need 13 cards each of the four piles to win.

Check in this order each turn

  1. First find a move that can flip the hidden cards. If you remove all face-up cards from a column, a hidden card will be revealed below, which is usually a priority step. Revealing new cards increases options available later.
  2. Now let's look at the basic deck.If you can place an Aces or a card of the same suit, check whether placing them will interfere with the current table column. The base deck should increase according to suit; do not skip points directly.
  3. Finally, draw a card. The table has no suitable moves, then tap the top left corner to draw cards. Don't mistake the cards covered in the pile of discards for cards you can use right now.

This is a sequence that makes it easier for beginners to judge; it does not guarantee that every random deck will be cleared.

Why leave a blank column?

Empty tables can only hold kings, and you can also bring in the entire row of face-up cards below the kings. Empty rows thus provide space for organizing long card strings. If you don't have any kings you can move over, you don't need to move cards repeatedly just to clear a column; First, look carefully at the hidden cards and available kings.

How to review when stuck

First, check if there are any unrevealed hidden cards in the seven columns, then check the empty columns and all movable kings. This site provides "hints" and "regret moves": hints will find a current playable hand, and regret pieces can be returned to the previous step. The hint indicates a legitimate move and does not represent the only or optimal solution.
