Jia'anGo endgame explanation

When Does Go End? Passing and Chinese Area Scoring

On this site, Gos on routes 9, 15, and 19 are settled after consecutive passes by both sides, rather than automatically declaring victory based on how many boards one side occupies.

How to trigger the endgame

When it's your turn, you can choose "pass". If the first player stops and the other also stops, it counts as two consecutive stops, and the game ends immediately and the board is counted. If one player makes a move in between, the count for consecutive stops starts over.

Even if one side is clearly leading or most of the board is full, the program will not automatically settle based solely on these phenomena. Both sides can still compete for the remaining empty points or choose to stop.

How to area scoring this site

This site is scored by board area: Black's score isNumber of pieces on the black board: The number of empty stones surrounded only by black pieces; White scores pointsNumber of pieces on the white board + number of empty points only surrounded by white + 6.5 komi。 Empty areas that contact both sides do not belong to either side and are not counted toward either side's score.

page displays "Black Move, White Move" is the match record. When scoring the area on this site, the capture count is no longer added separately; The removed pieces have been removed from the board, and the result is reflected on the board.

What should I check before stopping?

  1. See if your opponent has only one libertious piece left, and whether it can be taken by making a legal move.
  2. Check if your pieces have any weaknesses and whether they might be picked after your opponent makes another move.
  3. Confirm the boundary of the empty area: If both sides are next to each other, the area will not be automatically assigned to either side.

Our program directly area scoring the final board and will not automatically remove any "dead pieces" remaining on the board. If you pause consecutively before the disputed pieces have been removed, the settlement may differ from the player's expectations; It is safer to continue placing pieces first and then stopping.

Why does White still play 6.5 stones?

Black moves first, and at this site, White is given 6.5 komi when settling. Therefore, you can't just compare the points both sides occupy on the board; you also need to include White's KOMI. To see the actual score of the game, both sides need to pause continuously and let the program complete the settlement.
