Jun Qi (Army Chess) Strategy Guide

Jun Qi: Railways, Engineers, Camps and Headquarters

First, distinguish between highways, railways, and camps, then decide which piece to use to approach the military flag.

Just one step by road, and the railways can go far

This station uses the double-player Jun Qi (Army Chess) pattern of five routes and twelve rows. On the road, pieces each move to adjacent positions; On the railway, ordinary movable pieces can move multiple squares along the same straight line. Whether on road or railway, you cannot cross the middle pieces.

Ordinary pieces cannot make the same turn at the railway crossing. To transfer from one railway to another, you usually have to move in two turns; Engineers are an exception.

The value of engineers goes beyond mine clearance

Engineers can turn along the connected railway, bypassing the bend points on the open railway to find their route; but they still cannot pass through the pieces. Only engineers can clear mines as usual; if a bomb hits a mine, both sides leave together.

If you notice there might be mines behind the enemy, don't let senior ranks blindly touch them. First, see if engineers can arrive by rail, then consider exchanging bombs.

The headquarters and the headquarters are not the same thing

LocationSite rulesRemember this when making moves
Travel CampThe pieces within it cannot be attackedcan be used to temporarily avoid combat
Base CampOnce entered, you cannot move againDon't send in pieces that still need mobility
Military flag positionThe military flag itself cannot be movedWinning by capturing the opponent's military flag

Mines also cannot be moved. After the commander is killed, the position of that party's flag will be revealed, and the subsequent attack route will be clearer.

How to choose between hidden stones, open stones, and flipped stones

  • Dark Chess:Your pieces are visible, the opponent's rank is hidden, and the result is judged by the program referee, making it suitable for practicing probing and deduction.
  • Ming Qi:Both sides start with their identities revealed, so it's best to start with railroad and combat rules.
  • Flipping the Chess:Pieces face down; Clicking on unrevealed pieces consumes one turn, and only revealed allied pieces can move.

All three modes must follow the Railway, Camp, and Base Camp moves. On your first play, first familiarize yourself with the board with open chess, then try using concealed or flip moves.
